Auckland Council
Massey-Westgate, Auckland

Lead Artist - Rawstorne Studio
We were engaged by Auckland Council as 'Lead Artist' for the Massey-Westgate Town development project. This is a large scale development creating a new town and parkland. We spent 2 years collaborating with leading landscape architectural practice Isthmus and Auckland Council’s Programme Co-ordinator for Public Art on elements of the Totara Creek Parkland design.

The Isthmus parkland concept had parallels to our central theme of being there to represent the human journey through this new town and ensuring a connectivity with the urban and parkland landscape. The stunning "weave" concept travels through the 8km parkland, allowing the parkland to become a human arterial route through the new town. The linking of the "weave" expands the connectivity of the overall project, developing the parkland as vast outdoor classrooms, art galleries and performance areas. These combined ideas link the parkland to the town and create a bold enticing landscape for locals and visitors alike.
